Oak Hill Warriors Headed to China!

Oak Hill Academy Basketball Team Accepts Invitation to China
MOUTH OF WILSON, Virginia (February 8, 2012) – Oak Hill Academy and head basketball coach Steve Smith are honored to announce that the 2011-2012 Warriors have been invited by Atlas Sports and the Chinese National Team to represent the United States on a Men’s 18 & Under basketball tour of China.

The team will spend their Spring Break in March traveling to three Chinese provinces: Guangdong, Fujian, and Jiangxi. Joining the Warriors on this tour will be teams from Australia, Lithuania and China.
The Warriors are thrilled to have such an amazing opportunity and are looking forward to their experience abroad. Coach Steve Smith said, “It is an honor for our school and our team to be chosen to represent the USA. Over the course of our 2011-12 season, we have played some of the best teams in our country. Competing against some of greatest talent on a global scale will be an invaluable experience for our young athletes and great way to cap a successful season.”

This will be the fourth time an Oak Hill Academy basketball team has had the privilege of representing the United States on a global scale – 1986 (Virgin Islands), 1997 (Amsterdam). Most recently, in 2004, the Warriors traveled to Barcelona, led by now NBA standouts Rajon Rondo and Josh Smith. The 2004 Warriors went on to finish their season undefeated and won Oak Hill Academy’s seventh National Championship.

Oak Hill is currently 36-0 and ranked #1 in both the ESPN Rise and USA Today national polls. Oak Hill Academy is a non-military, Baptist-affiliated boarding high school that provides college preparatory education for young men and women, grades 8-12. Since 1878, Oak Hill has served students of all nationalities through a highly structured curriculum that focuses on accountability and self-discipline.

Congratulations to the coaching staff and team on this tremendous opportunity!  I’m sure they will represent the US very well.
This is just my opinion on the above text, but I think there should be a correction.  The 2004 Warriors did win a National Title, but it was Oak Hill’s fifth title of seven total.
